Glenara was registered in Aberystwyth in 1859, and exported goods to Egypt. In March of 1865 she was found in the Malta channel, waterlogged and de-masted. Captain Benjamin Davies of Aberaeron was sent to supervise the repairs of the wrecked ship; his work was completed in a ‘first-rate manner.’ He returned home and married Jane Evans of Portland House, uniting the families of Aberaeron’s first Harbourmaster and Postmaster. Sadly, however after leaving California with a new captain in October 1872, the Glenara disappeared. No trace of her was ever found.
